Some of my critique group members went on a trip to a large metropolitan library. We watched this machine brew a book and learned about self-publishing options.

It was like seeing the “back office” of the publishing world. A maze of doors and hallways that require safe navigation through wisdom and research.

Preparation pays off before you self publish and it also protects you, because every choice you make creates a bend, an accident, or moves you safely forward on your road of writing.

My current book series of 3 is historical fiction inspired by my quirky great grandfather on my dad’s side of the family tree. On October 27, 2024, The BookFest Awards bestowed First Place in General Historical Fiction upon it! Stunningly unexpected.

Book 2 focuses on his sister’s life, and Book 3 reveals some of his son’s life.

According to many rumors, authors never stop learning. I’m studying and reading cozy mysteries for future projects. I’ve convinced myself I’ve adjusted to the black hole of writing and the author’s life. Why not add more challenges? What could happen?
