As a silver-haired person, I retain the privileges of Reflection or Regrets. I’ve earned this right through years of trials, temptations, and choices. My journal excerpt—Reflect on Plans.
A few years post-divorce, COBRA for my healthcare neared its end, and I needed to become my sole supporter.
“Where there’s a will, there’s a way.”
Being an artist (see part of my portfolio here on my website) I’d been self-employed for nearly thirteen years. While the pay was good, my ex-husband’s employer provided my healthcare. I needed a new career for benefits—my adult kids were in college and working, but lived with me.
I signed up for college with an eight month certificate program and an externship with job placement at graduation. (*For informational purposes, I provided a link to one in my state, and I do NOT know the current situation with that college). My part-time employer scheduled my shifts around my classes. I beat the COBRA deadline, was hired permanently at my externship, and supported myself with benefits, until I retired.
Besides my plans for a career change, I also needed self-care. I highly recommend a three-month course in Divorce Care it renewed my hope for recovery.
There’s so much more life to live, even after a divorce.
